Students are working on science and social studies this month.
In science, students are studying geology through project based learning. Through project based learning, students are able to engage in hands on activities to answer scientific questions.
While every month is Black History Month in 5th grade, we are continuing to learn about past and present role models in February. Students learned about important members of the Black Panther Party to celebrate the party's 50th anniversary by taking on a role of different party members and teaching the class about their participation and views in the Black Panther Party. From here, students are investigating different aspects of identity, and ways current day activists challenge negative thoughts about different identities.
Students in Philly challenged identity through art. Our class will be studying the art of these students and using it as a starting point for creating our own art.
